“S” is for snowman

“S” is for snowman

My oldest is in Pre-K 4 this year and every week they work on a new letter of the alphabet. And along with writing the letter and learning pronunciation, there is also a letter snack. Can you guess who is responsible this week? You got it, us. And if it isn't obvious by now, our letter of the week is "S" and we decided to make donut snowmen inspired by Very Heatherly (who I blogged about last year with our Snow Day collection). The only difference is that I used orange Starburst candies (melted in the microwave for 8 seconds and divided in half) instead of fondant, and I attached them with white icing (not easy to get it to stick to the powder). And as you can see on the back of the letter S tags, I couldn't let my little guy off without putting in a little extra effort. (Not to ... [Read More]

modern sleepover

modern sleepover

When I create an inspiration board, it's usually one thing that inspires the rest. This time it was these adorable slipper cookies from Family Fun magazine. I just love this simple and yummy (donut hole covered in coconut), yet oh so pretty idea. From there I thought about my nieces, now teenagers, and what would appeal to them and their friends. My oldest niece recently celebrated her sweet sixteen in hot pink and black bliss, so I'm very confident she will approve of my choices: Favor boxes (image via Hostess Blog) can be filled with candies or maybe some "so pink" fingernail polish Pink pom poms from Baby Favors & Things Pink lemonade with fun "Yum!" stir sticks from Style Me Pretty (image via Hostess Blog) Divine birthday party invitation from The Celebration ... busy bee birthday

busy bee birthday

Not all birthday parties have to be bright primary colors, especially before your little one is old enough to have his/her own opinion about the theme and decor {wink}. So if you have a very busy bee running (or crawling) around your house, consider some of these fabulous ideas: Bee hive cake from Family Fun magazine  Custom buzz invitation from The Celebration Shoppe Flower arrangement (unforatunately not sure; if anyone knows I would love to give credit) Bee hive pinata from Canadian Family magazine Busy bee cookies from Baked on Etsy Yellow and black table decor from The Celebration Shoppe As always, I hope you're inspired! ... dino-roar favor ideas plus

dino-roar favor ideas plus

I mentioned when we launched our dinosaur birthday party collection that my youngest has already claimed it for his upcoming birthday party. With that in mind, I went in search of favor ideas over the weekend. I really like the dinosaur dig ideas (upper left from Toys To Grow On, lower left from eBay) for the activity. Our guests will be in the 3-5 age range so we'll likely go with the sand version and then let them take their finds home. But for older kids, the Tricerotops excavation is very cool. If I didn't already have foam puzzle dinosaurs in primary colors to match the table decor, this Knex Dino Pal (upper right) would possibly be worked into the decor (maybe at the beverage station). As is, it may still end up as a gift for my little one. {wink} Oh, and we must have the ... [Read More]

introducing woodland fairy

introducing woodland fairy

My mom used to tell the most beautiful woodland fairy stories to my nieces, who are now teenagers (stop growing girls!), vividly outlining the smallest details. One of my favorites was that the fairies were tiny and typically unseen unless you knew where to look. So when we started developing this fairy theme, I thought of those stories and how my nieces little faces would light up listening to my mom's magical fairytale. As you browse this collection's decor, know that the moss on the cake plate, the squirrel in the forest and the sparkles on the invitation are all tributes to my mom's creativity. {Love you Mom!} I chose hot pink and lime green polka dot decor for this collection not only because it's modern and oh so popular, but because pink is very fairy, right. And the green of ... [Read More]

fairy village cake

fairy village cake

It's almost as if Family Fun magazine knew what was on my mind this week. These are shots from the March issue. How adorable is this cake idea!? And it goes perfectly with our new woodland fairy birthday collection, which by the way you'll see lots of pics of tomorrow. Here are some close ups of the little cake houses. I'm loving the toadstool idea. I use Starburst for all kinds of baking ideas (i.e., my crashing witch cupcake boots), but I hadn't thought of this one yet: red Starburst candy and marshmallows. Heat them up a bit and you can mold them into anything. Plus, since they come in so many colors, you don't have to worry with food coloring. Not only is this idea fun for the party, I know my kids would have a blast creating the scene. I can imagine it might be a little ... [Read More]

under the big top

under the big top

I'm considering a few new birthday party collection themes and one I've thought about is a bright and bold circus with roaring lions and games galore. As usual I took to the web to see what I could find. I quickly ran across two very familiar party blogs with super fun inspiration. The first set of images, above, is from Kara's Party Ideas and it is an actual party that she hosted for her two little guys this past summer. You have to jump over there to see all the details. I admit it is amazing; she must have spent months planning. And these are from mom Michelle Thornton (via the Hostess Blog). I love the color and yet the simplicity. The party was held in a park so the level of detail that Kara went to wasn't possible (set-up and control would be a nightmare away from your own ... [Read More]

woodland fairy & terrarium

woodland fairy & terrarium

I mentioned several weeks ago in my post about fairy finds that we were in the process of developing a woodland fairy birthday collection. Well we're still not all the way there, but we're close enough to give you a peek at the custom invitation for the collection (available in the shoppe by the end of next week... I promise... with a complete set of pink and lime green table decor, plus printables).  As for this very cool craft idea to the right, I was bouncing around the web this morning and landed on the Party Wishes blog hosted by a very talented party planner by the name of Donna. She created a step-by-step pictorial for this fairy terrarium (original idea from Martha Stewart) and I just thought what a perfect craft project for our party theme! These are just a few views of ... [Read More]
